He was the managing director of the “Nuernberger Akademie für Absatzwirtschaft e.V.” for more than 25 years and conceptualized seminars for market- ing managers around Europe. Being in close contact with the marketing departments from the Universities Nuernberg and Vienna, he started collecting historic advertising posters in the early 70’s. Due to his excellent net- work with advertising agencies, he managed to accumulate a lot of posters in a short period of time. Seeing him sit- ting in the living room, smoking cigarettes and talking with friends about eras and artists of posters is an incremen- tal part of our childhood memories. After the German reunion, he was several times travelling to the eastern part of Germany, buying posters from other collectors, who managed to keep them safe during the German separation. The posters had been a decorative element of our parental home and had been displayed at some local exhibitions in our hometown Nuernberg (see notification poster “Ausstellung Tourismusplakate der Alpenländer”). Our father passed away at Christmas 2016 and we decided to offer the majority of his posters in this auction of Van Sabben Poster Auction to other collectors, who have bonds to the exciting advertising world from the past. © The family, 2019
