In 1927, the editors of "De Reclame were very dissatisfied that this poster was chosen by the Dutch Olympics Committee as the official poster for the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, (ref. pg. 217 "De Reclame", May 1927).
Quote: "Hohlwein, Purvis or Cassandre would certainly have designed an advertising poster, instead of this naturalistic picture!
After 10,000 posters were distributed in 1928, it appeared that the runner in the image was a pacer and therefore the entire run had to be quickly destroyed.
Accordingly, this has now become the rarest Olympic poster and this beautiful specimen managed to keep out of the hands of the destroyers!
